Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp Signs Heartbeat Abortion Bill Over Celebrity Protests

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a controversial abortion bill Tuesday that bans abortion as early as six weeks, over protests from reproductive rights groups and Hollywood stars. The so-called Georgia legislation is the fourth such law to be passed this year, but heartbeat measures in Ohio, Mississippi, and Kentucky were all blocked by legal challenges before they could be enacted. Both the ACLU and Center for Reproductive Rights said Tuesday that they will sue to block the law in Georgia as well. Governor Kemp put politics before the health and well-being of Georgia women and their families, Talcott Camp, deputy director of the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, said in a statement. 50 Brilliant Child Hacks For Babysitters, Parents, Teachers, And Nurses

By Dakota Corbin Listen up, because Ask Reddit has some hacks for anyone who spends time around little kids. By Dakota Corbin 1. If a child is having a meltdown, ask what color their shoes/shirts/pants/whatever clothing their wearing are. This distracts the child long enough to stop them in the midst of their meltdown because they haven’t thought about what they’re wearing. 2. To get a newborn to burp: Sit them on your knee, holding them under their armpits, and move their upper bodies in a circle several times. Like a reverse hula move I guess. I learned it from a neonatal nurse, and it’s almost infallible. So much faster and more reliable than regular burping. 3. If you want …

Indictment Alleges Who Hacked Anthem, but Not Why

The hack of health insurance giant Anthem Inc. has loomed large in the public consciousness since it first came to light in 2015—not just as one of the biggest breaches of all time, but also as a potential example of the Chinese government's longstanding cyber espionage campaign. But when the Department of Justice unsealed an indictment Thursday evening charging two Chinese nationals for the Anthem attack, any indication of the alleged hackers' motives or affiliation was noticeably absent. The US government accused 32-year-old Fujie Wang and an unnamed codefendant of being “members of …

Conservative men try to talk to Ocasio-Cortez about menstruation

Last night, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed one of the most restrictive anti-abortion laws in the nation, a heartbeat bill that bans abortions after six weeks. It’s being called a backdoor abortion ban, because of the short amount of time between when a woman could detect her pregnancy and when the restriction kicks in. In many cases, women don’t find out they’re pregnant within the first six weeks, and yet the law would force them to carry a pregnancy to term, denying their the right to choose. It was a point Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) made on Twitter last night in the wake of the law being signed. 6 weeks pregnant = 2 weeks late on your period. Most of …

Facebook pivots to what it wishes it was

In Facebook’s dreams, it’s a clean and private place. People spend their time having thoughtful discussions in “meaningful” Groups, planning offline meetups with Events or laughing together in a Facebook Watch party. In reality, Facebook is a cluttered mess of features that seem to constantly leak user data. People waste their time viewing inane News Feed posts from “friends” they never talk to, enviously stalking through photos of peers or chowing on click-bait articles and viral videos in isolation. Facebook will never shake this reputation if it just keeps polishing its old features. Functionally, FB5 means placing Groups near the center of a freshly tabbed interface for both Facebook’s website and app, and putting suggestions for new ones to join …
