Holly Riordan Updated October 22, 2019 By Hayley Lyla You’re not okay if you’re spending every single day in bed, barely moving from your room, rarely answering texts or engaging in any type of human interaction. You’re not okay if you’re always telling lies about why you’ve been acting so distant from your friends, why you’ve been locked inside your house lately, why you haven’t been in the mood to go out, why your eyes are always so red …

Cat Caught On Camera Devouring A WHOLE Kangaroo In Australia

We all know that domestic cats can be savage little hunters, getting their paws on all sorts of tiny critters from spiders to songbirds to geckoes. It seems they also have a pretty voracious appetite, with one hungry kitty devouring an entire kangaroo in a matter of days. Of course, the small cat did not bring down the bouncy beast, it was dead already, but the sighting is nevertheless a rarity.    Emma Spencer is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney who focuses on the diets of predators like foxes, cats, and dingoes in the vast, red sandy Simpson Desert in Australia’s Northern Territory. Why The Flu Shot Cannot Give You The Flu (And Why You Should Get One Now)

Flu vaccination prevents millions of flu-related illnesses and deaths annually, but vaccination rates are low for many reasons. During the 2018-2019 flu season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that about 45% of U.S. adults received the flu vaccine. While this is an increase of 8% from 2017-2018, it falls way below the national goal of 70% of American adults receiving a flu shot. One of the common myths that leads people to avoid the flu shot is that they think the shot will give them the flu. But that is simply not true. The virus in the vaccine is not active, and an inactive virus cannot transmit disease. What is true is that you may feel the …

Malaria Hopped From Gorillas To Humans In A Rare Encounter 50,000 Years Ago

Plasmodium falciparum is undoubtedly one of the most influential organisms in human history. This unicellular parasite is one of the main species responsible for malaria, a disease that’s killed tens of billions of humans and continues to infect over 200 million people each year.  But how did our unfortunate relationship with this parasite start? A new study reveals an important chapter of this story can be traced back to an unlikely encounter between two parasites some 50,000 years ago and a rare genetic event that allowed the infection to jump from gorillas to humans.  All of the malaria parasites originated in African great apes. However, somewhere along the line, some obtained the ability to switch host from gorillas to humans. There are seven Plasmodium parasite species that cause …
