Boris Johnson needs to throw someone under a bus over Brexit

Manchester, England (CNN)Boris Johnson has set the UK on course for a Brexit showdown. Whatever the reaction to Johnson in Manchester, it doesn’t change the scale of the challenge he faces both in Westminster and Brussels. Johnson later published a letter to the EU Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, setting out plans for a new Brexit deal, the existing one having been rejected three times in Parliament. Downing Street briefed before the speech that this would be a “final” offer to the EU. If Brussels doesn’t like it, Johnson said in his speech that the UK is perfectly ready for no deal. It’s currently unclear if Brussels will engage with the plans. Johnson’s letter is vague and, on first reading, still …

Dirt From Denisova Cave Sheds Light On The Story Of Prehistoric Humans

The Denisova Cave might just be one of the most important spaces in human history (that researchers know of, at least). For thousands of years, this remote cavern in southern Siberia was frequented by humans, Neanderthals, and our now-extinct cousins the Denisovans. Here, these three hominins had sex, shared genes, birthed hybrids, and left a legacy that can still be seen in humans today. That was the story, at least. However, as a new study has shown, the story of this cave is a lot more complex than the traditional narrative suggests.  Archeologists from Flinders University have taken a deep look at the layers of dirt and dust left in the cave network over the past 300,000 years using a technique called …

Labradoodle creator says he unleashed ‘Frankenstein monster,’ calling it his ‘life’s regret’

Cute golden labradoodle laying in lush green grass. (iStock) Over three years, Conron tried breeding poodles — which don’t shed — to no avail. He eventually mixed a Labrador and a poodle, and the result was a trio of puppies. One went to the woman in Hawaii. After a public relations blitz to find homes for the two remaining puppies, the breed became popular in Australia and abroad, leading to a slew of crossbreeding. “I realized what I had done within a matter of days,” he said. “I went to our big boss at the time and I said to him, ‘Look, I’ve created a monster. We need to do something about it to control it.’” He told ABC his “big regret” …

Arceo.ai raises $37 million to expand cyber insurance coverage and access

Critical cyber attacks on both businesses and individuals have been grabbing headlines at an alarming rate. Cybersecurity has moved from a background risk for enterprises to a critical day-to-day threat to business operations, forcing executive teams to pour time and hundreds of billions in capital into monitoring and prevention efforts. Yet even as investment in security ticks up, the frequency and cost of cybercrime to businesses continues to rapidly accelerate, with the World Economic Forum estimating the economic loss due to cybercrime could reach $3 trillion by 2020. More companies are now turning to cyber insurance as a means of mitigating financial exposure. However, for traditional insurers, cybersecurity remains a relatively nascent and unfamiliar issue, requiring risk-assessment data points and …

Johnson should quit over court ruling – Drakeford

Media playback is unsupported on your device Media captionSupreme Court ruling on Parliament suspension Boris Johnson should resign after the Supreme Court found his suspension of Parliament is unlawful, First Minister Mark Drakeford has said. The court’s justices found that, in effect, the five-week prorogation never took place. It is a “victory for the rule of law”, Mr Drakeford said. The prime minister said he would “respect the verdict”, but that it had made negotiating with the EU more difficult. Johnson vows to compensate for ‘SNP inadequacies’

‘Extra funding’ He said: “They (the SNP) have the highest taxes anywhere in the UK. They are not doing a good job on health, they are not doing a good job on education. “I hope the money that we are now investing is properly spent on those services. “And I hope that Scottish Conservatives get the credit they deserve for the hundreds of millions of extra funding that we’re putting into Scottish agriculture which was secured, not by Nicola Sturgeon, but by Scottish Conservatives.” Chancellor Sajid Javid announced an extra £1.2bn for Scotland earlier this month – including £160m for farmers to settle a long-running row over the redistribution of Common Agricultural Policy payments. I Lived The Real-Life ’90 Day Fianc.’ Here’s What They Don’t Show You.

You’ve probably heard of the hit reality TV show “90 Day Fiancé.” The program, aired by TLC, follows American men and women on their quest to marry foreigners they’ve fallen in love with ― usually online. I first stumbled across the show at the height of my Brazilian beau’s battle with the U.S. immigration system. By that time, we had already applied for and been denied the K-1 visa ― the very same visa made famous by the show. If approved, the beneficiary is allowed to enter the United States, but must marry the petitioner within 90 days of entry. We were prepared to do just that, but we had no idea what was in store for us.  What followed …
