The 2020 Democrats as ‘Game of Thrones’ characters

(CNN)(THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF SPOILERS — proceed with caution) Even with the slew of recent deaths on the show — RIP, Jorah Mormont — there are still a massive cast of characters to wrestle with as we move toward the end game. What else, you ask, has lots of characters and drama with an uncertain ending? (Amazing segue, right???) Why, the 2020 Democratic presidential primary campaign, of course! With 21 official candidates all seeking the Iron Thro — er, Democratic nomination — it’s sometimes hard to keep track of who’s who. (Sidebar: 60% of the time my wife and I are watching “GOT” is filled with me saying, “Wait, who is that again?”) Maybe this will help …

Maisie Williams says her ‘Game of Thrones’ fame affected her mental health

(CNN)Maisie Williams says fame has had a negative affect on her mental health and self-esteem. While she has tried to move past what people have said online, Williams, 22, said she still thinks about comments that hurt her. “I still lie in bed at, like, 11 o’clock at night telling myself all the things I hate about myself,” Williams said. “It’s just really terrifying that you’re ever going to slip back into it. That’s still something that I’m really working on, because I think that’s really hard. It’s really hard to feel sad and not feel completely defeated by it.” Last month, her co-star and friend Sophie Turner, who plays her show sister Sansa Stark, said she dealt with depression …

Campaigners Say Koalas Are Already Functionally Extinct. Here’s What That Means

Koalas are adorable, chlamydia-riddled fluffballs – and functionally extinct, say campaigners.  The sad news comes courtesy of the Australian Koala Foundation, who say that there are now fewer than 80,000 koalas in the wild. The figure is significantly lower than previous estimates and is resulting in excessive inbreeding that experts say will harm the viability of any future generations. The warning comes just weeks after a UN report revealed close to a million species of plants and animals are at risk of extinction within the coming decades unless we see “transformative change”. Functional extinction stands in stark contrast to numerical extinction. The latter being when a species has declined to just a handful of individuals so that there is no chance of future breeding. Just think of Lonesome …

Human trafficking victims recount tales of being forced into modern-day slavery: ‘It was a living hell’

“C” who asked that her identity be withheld, recalled in a recent interview how she was forced into sex work when she was just a young teenager from a broken home. The dark trade of human trafficking – in which people are traded or sold for the purpose of forced labor or sexual exploitation– has been a persistent problem across major cities and idyllic rural communities in the United States for decades. Recent years have shown awareness building around the issue, but many are still unaware of the true victims of trafficking. While many perceive most trafficking victims as foreign nationals smuggled into the country, an overwhelming majority of victims are born in the U.S. “[The] average person seems to …

Maybe Youll Never Be The Same After An Abusive Relationship And Maybe Thats Okay

Natalia Vela Updated May 13, 2019 By Jack Antal Hiding my favorite benzodiazepines – Xanax and Klonopin – in lipstick tubes and vitamin bottles, the false calm they’d bestow upon me and then the fog. How hard it was to stay away from single-edge razor blades and sharper things. The constant hunger. The trash always in need to be taken out, full to the brim with empty glass bottles of one thing or another. Our dog sensing the hurricane brewing in the pit of my stomach, licking my hands, my legs, my face, knowing the imminent deluge was a dangerous thing; more anxious than me, maybe. Never sleeping before 3 in the morning and always waking up before 8. My …

Joe Biden Shrugs Off Controversy In Debut Trip To New Hampshire

As he has in other states, Biden cast himself as the experienced statesman best equipped to defeat President Donald Trump, restore the country’s “basic bargain” of economic fairness and heal the country’s divisions. I feel like the country is broken right now. And we need somebody who can win and then heal it. Mindy Musumeci Friday story in Reuters in which his advisers discussed his plans to seek a “middle ground” on climate change. Biden argued, with ample evidence, that he was an early “leader” on climate change but did not specifically refute the claim that his policy plans would be tempered to win over skeptical voters in industrial states with large fossil fuel industries. “I got made fun of because …
