The fallout from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s documentary seems to be affecting them both.
Following the premiere of Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which covered the couple’s recent South Africa tour as well as their personal struggles with media attention,
A friend of the late Princess Diana shared with People how the 35-year-old royal is handling things presently:
“He sees the pain of his wife and the attacks she faces, and he wants to try to sort it out. There is an element of [the press] being ingrained as the enemy. He is trying to protect them all. He is doing what he can.”
And as for Meghan, she doesn’t seem to be doing so hot, either. A royal insider shared with Us Weekly (below):
“She’s really hoping the critics will give her a break now they’ve been made aware of how the negativity is affecting her. She wants the public to know that she’s vulnerable just like everyone else. It’s been an extremely emotional few months having to deal with all the negativity whilst looking after a newborn.”
Honestly, seems unlikely right now because everyone is talking about the documentary! But we hope she can be cut some slack from her harsher critics. It’s understandable for them both to be feeling this way, given how raw and candid they each were with ITV host Tom Bradby in their documentary interviews.
In one particularly poignant clip, Archie Harrison‘s momma described feeling “really vulnerable” while pregnant with her son:
“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, you know. And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It’s um … yeah. I guess, also thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”
Give the heartbreaking clip a watch (below):
ITV's @tombradby spoke to Meghan as he gained exclusive access to the royal couple as they toured Africa for 10 days with their son Archie.

So, what’s next?
Now that they’ve dropped all these major truth bombs, it’s doubtful they’ll just stay quiet moving forward, even if the royal family wants them to stay tight-lipped.
